Our family got news this week that really, really hurt. We lost our aunt Mela this week, she was one that makes you jealous of the angels that were there to greet her.
What I’ve learned from her death is that I need to work on telling people how much they mean to me or inspire me. I think my aunt knew I loved her but I don’t think I ever got to fully express how much I looked up to her.
She was one of the most warm people you could ever meet. You just knew that when she asked you how you were she really wanted to know. She gave the best hugs. She was an incredible artist.
One day in 2006 she came over to see mine and Dan’s first apartment together and out of now where ends up painting a beautiful Japanese mural on our kitchen cabinets, no sketch, no reference photos. Just from her heart.
She was still showing her art work into her 80s, this show was in August 2025. When I saw the show photos on Facebook, (also pissed at myself that I didn’t go to her show in Denver) I just immediately thought, I want to be just like her. I wish I had told her that.
Aunt Mela, you inspire me to be a better person, a better artist and a better mother/auntie. I am going to miss you for the rest of my life.

My guy moved to NYC yesterday to start his career. I couldn’t be more proud of what he’s accomplished. And I take no credit for it, he arrived to me this way — determined, adventurous, brave. I’ve cried a river of tears the past few days but I’ve landed on the fact that no amount of miles apart can truly separate us. Always my bestie, I can’t wait to hear about all his NY adventures and go experience this exciting city with him 🥰 @noahm0101

My little painter working at @mimigreendogcollars. How is she already in 5th grade?! (My Auggie is officially a high school senior and my Noah is finishing his thesis this month but I don’t have any cute photos of them painting 😜😝🤪)

Practicing crochet for her summer class 🧶. I pretty much copied/pasted myself with this one. (Probably why she’s the sassiest, bratiest one of my three! 😂)

Auggie and I collaborated on artist trading cards (my heart! 😭❤️) 4 joint efforts and 3 solo projects. I was inspired by Lucie`s request for rubber ducky earrings. After I finished those, I had way too much fun (way too much laughing 😂) making tiny beaded creatures all week. We`ll be trading these 2.5x3.5 inch cards with a huge community of Albuquerque artists. Can`t wait to see the amazing artwork we`ll receive!
